What’s Your Favorite Season?
After sweltering heat last week we’re suddenly having some cool, crisp weather in New York – the kind that makes you really appreciate the fleeting moments of temperatures perfect for sleeping with the windows open, and realize how lovely it is to be able to get dressed without worry of sweating through your outfit immediately, or having to cover it up with a coat to keep warm. After a few seasonless years in San Francisco, the sudden change of weather has both felt new and familiar, and reminded me that there’s truly nothing better than autumn in New York.
Fall has always been my favorite season; it reminds me of back to school shopping and new notebooks and pencils, of colorful changing leaves, and cozy layers with sweaters and boots. Our recent cool weather has made me feel nostalgic with memories of past seasons, and excited for the fresh start that is a new season in a new city, and after the perpetual feeling of I don’t have anything to wear over the past few months, I’ve never been so happy to see my denim and jackets again.
While my fall wardrobe is pretty set thanks to San Francisco’s always feels like October climate, I’ve been adding a few new pieces into the mix to freshen things up and make sure my closet can keep up with the faster pace of my new lifestyle. My latest favorite addition? A pair of bright, sunny loafers from Rothy’s in lemondrop yellow. They’re insanely comfortable (as in so comfortable that I can walk to/from work in ’em without a single sign of a blister – so rare when it comes to flats!), and they’re made from 100% post-consumer water bottles, recycled foam, and vegan and non-toxic adhesives, which is pretty damn cool. The yellow color has also been surprisingly versatile, adding a pop of color to any outfit and helping transition my wardrobe from summer to fall with the on-trend jewel tone hue.
I’ve been easing into the shift from summer to autumn by pairing my Rothy’s loafers with layered looks, letting the yellow make a statement with looks that feel like fall but are still functional with lingering hot temperatures. A pair of looser-fit, boyfriend denim can be easily dressed up when paired with a silk cami and the sophisticated silhouette of a loafer, while a cozy oversized cardigan adds some extra warmth for battling office air conditioning or a chilly evening. It’s a perfect look that satisfies the oh my god it’s fall mood that tends to hit once Labor Day has passed and having a comfortable shoe on my feet helps me make the most of the perfect weather and lingering long days before winter’s chill officially hits.
What’s your favorite season? Anyone else seriously excited about fall?
